Submit a Story

Each week, our website is visited by thousands of readers. Our readership includes best-selling and award-winning authors, editors, publishers, and literary agents.

Story length should be around 1,000 to 3,000 words (a couple hundred over is fine). Fewer than 800 words likely won’t be a fit. Flash is not really our thing.

We pay $25 for all accepted stories. If we buy a story, we ask for exclusive rights for one year. After that, the rights go back to the author.

Please read some stories to get a sense of our style and tone. We aren’t interested in stories that are misogynist, racist, or prejudice. Stories with gratuitous violence or macho aggression are a bad fit for us.

Our acceptance rate hovers around two percent. An additional two percent of submissions are offered editorial notes with an opportunity to revise and resubmit. Yes, this means it’s hard to get published at Brown Hound Press. But you should try anyway!

To submit a story for consideration, please use the form below. Stories should be previously unpublished. Please do not submit more than one at a time. If we pass on a story, we prefer you wait at least a month to try again with a new one.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but let us know if the story is accepted elsewhere. We usually respond so fast that it’s not a factor.

We do not permit the use of AI in the stories we publish. Do not attempt to submit stories that have been written with AI.
